Top 5 Tips for Driving Traffic to Your Website

A website is the home of your online presence. It’s the place people go to find out everything there is to know about your brand, what you offer and who you are as a person. But what good is all of that if no one can find your website? We’ve put together 5 tips that will help you drive more traffic to your website.

Google Maps

First up, our most talked-about method for driving traffic to your website and appearing at the top of google searches. Google Maps is especially relevant if your business targets a specific geographic area (e.g. Perth). How many times have you searched google for the nearest mechanic, plumber, hairdresser, etc.? If your audience is searching for your business with locale in mind, you should get set up with Google Maps. No complicated SEO is required, and you will start showing in searches immediately!

Groupon

Having a Groupon offering is a great way to increase your visibility and brand awareness in general. People who are browsing for value on Groupon will be exposed to your brand if you are signed up with their platform. Groupon users that find your offers interesting will be inclined to check out your website before committing to any purchases.

Driving potential customers to your website allows you to sell them not only on your product or service but on you as a person. It’s always important to remember in business that people buy from people. So, show them what you’re all about and try to make that connection with your website!

As a side note on this point, remember that Groupon is seen as being a little “down market” so if your brand identity is luxury, premium etc, this may not be a good fit for your brand.

Backlinks

One of the key metrics that Google uses to rank websites is the links that are connected to your websites, as this increases your domain authority (i.e. it increases the importance and visibility of your site, which Google likes). These links can be:

  1. Links within your website, such as to blog posts, events or other pages.

  2. Links to your website from other sites (e.g. a link to your blog post).

  3. Links to other sites from your website, such as a directory that links to several other websites.

For example, we have linked to one of our posts in the Google Maps section of this piece, or you can also ask other people to feature your website or blog posts on their website. Links from Facebook also count.

SEO

Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) can be a bit of an enigma but basically, it is modifying your content so that search engines – like Google – will be more likely to suggest your content to searchers. This can be as simple as including keywords in your headlines. For example, the headline of this post contains the keyword "driving traffic to your website". You can also try sprinkling adjacent keywords throughout your posts to increase the relevance of your content, and in turn, your search ranking and web traffic.

Furthermore, have you noticed that sometimes Google will show you videos or “how-to” results at the top of a search? These are called snippets and Google will sometimes show content that is optimised for these formats at the top of searches.

Notice how Android Authority claimed the snippet spot despite Five Minute Lessons being the actual top result. If you think your content would suit a video or list format, then you should try structuring your content in that way. This gives your website a chance to appear at the top of searches and beat out the higher-ranked competition.

Referrals

Yes, you read that right! Referring your customers to relevant businesses can be beneficial for your website traffic. But how does sending your audience away drive traffic to your website? The key is to collaborate with other businesses. You should let businesses know when you are referring your customers to their products or services. In most cases, they will return the favour. This opens you up to a completely new pool of potential clients!

One of our best general tips for small businesses is to join local business Facebook Groups. These are a great place to gain some trustworthy contacts that you can refer your customers to in the future. Referrals create value for customers in the time and effort saved that it takes to find trustworthy brands. Vouching for your fellow businesses creates value for them in the time and money saved in acquiring new customers. And finally, it provides value to yourself in the relationships and loyalty that come about when you recommend quality businesses.
